Beginner Hiker Trip PAcking list

NOTE: 

  • Pack lightly. Do not bring a suitcase, utilize duffel bags. 

  • There is an overlap between the hiking portion and the backpacking portion.

  • You will be able to wash laundry twice: once the day before our backpacking trip and once after our backpacking trip.

Gear that can be rented at additional cost:

  • Sleeping bag

  • Sleeping padRo

  • Tent

Pack:

  • Day pack 15L to 30

Sleep System:

  • Sleeping bag rated for 30 degrees to 40 degrees OR LOWER

  • Sleeping pad

  • Camp pillow 

For Food:

  • Camp silverware: spoon and fork

  • Lightweight travel mug

  • Camp bowl

  • Camp plate

  • Waterbottle (I recommend one or two Nalgenes)

  • A box of ziploc bags

Clothing:

  • Sunglasses

  • Ballcap/Hat/Bandana

  • 2-3 pairs of hiking socks (I recommend REI brand, Smartwool, or Darn Tough)

  • Hiking boots 

  • Camp sandals/shoes (Chacos, Tevas, ect.)

  • 1 swimsuit

  • Insulated puffy jacket

  • Fleece jacket

  • 2-3 pairs of hiking shorts

  • 1-2 pairs of hiking pants/leggings

  • 1-2 short sleeve hiking shirts

  • 1-2 long sleeve hiking shirts

  • Undergarments: underwear, sports bras, additional socks

  • 1 pair of midweight baselayer pants or leggings for sleeping

  • 1 long-sleeve midweight baselayer for sleeping or a long sleeve shirt for sleeping

  • Insulated gloves

  • Cozy hat

  • Rain jacket/poncho

  • Rain pants

Toiletries:

  • Toothbrush

  • Toothpaste

  • Sunscreen

  • Shampoo/Conditioner

  • Hairbrush

  • Chapstick

  • Lotion

  • Fash wash

  • Bug spray

  • Ponytails

  • Travel towel 

  • Nail clippers

  • Menstrual products

  • Prescription medications

  • Personal meds: ibuprofen, motion sickness medications
